About Asian Antiques Gallery
Within the past several years, prices for regional furniture have more than doubled while the selection has dwindled.
The pricing of our antique furniture reflects the age, wood, particular design element, or original integrity. Use caution and ask questions if you are really interested in collection antiques and not just a piece of decorative furniture. What is the seller’s experience in Asian Antiques? Does he or she personally select the pieces in China and from what source? How are pieces restored? The answers to all of these questions have a direct impact on the pricing structure. In addition, similar pieces can be found for higher prices- possibly the seller bought the antiques at an escalated rate, the restoration was more costly, there is a unique feature that increases the value, or their price is just artificially high. Lower prices could mean increased access to remote regions where people living there are more ready to sell their possessions at lower prices for added income, or shipping companies get into the market rounding up furniture to ship overseas for sale, taking advantage of hardly any shipping cost to sell items at lower prices.
With limited availability for quality regional furniture these days, prices for them are increasing at a rate of 25%-40% per year. The availability of good pieces continues to decline. Thus, if you have the opportunity to purchase a piece from mid 1800s and earlier with original patina, do so now. With the passage of time, your chances of finding something of similar quality and integrity within the next few years will be limited. Change in economic status (higher income levels) is resulting in more individuals willing to hold onto pieces they may have sold in prior years for added income. Don’t be surprised if the prices of our rare pieces rise with limited availability too!
Our gallery guarantees that each piece of furniture has been carefully selected by our gallery owner who has spent the last fifteen years personally going to China buying only from experts with vast knowledge in Asian Antiques. Many ordinary pieces of furniture have been rejected at the advice from these experts and so we believe our gallery has a big collection of provincial furniture antiques dating from mid Qing (mid 1800s) all the way back to the Yuan Dynasty (1279-1368), with limited restoration, if any, to preserve the integrity of the piece. |
